History

Back in 2007, before the Fightin’ Phils brought a championship parade back to Broad Street, Rolling Barrel founders, Corey Krejcik and Matt Mebert, decided to create a tailgate event unlike any they had ever attended. They wanted to infuse their love for local craft beers and incredible bar-b-que with the fun and games that are synonymous with most good tailgates in South Philly.

And so it came to be. They enlisted the help of regional bar-b-que and beer powerhouses (and honest-to-goodness great people) Sweet Lucy’s Smoke House and Sly Fox Brewing Company – and built the first tailgate ever* featuring an all-you-can-eat bar-b-que buffet and a brewmaster-led tasting session featuring Sly Fox’s big bottle portfolio. There were plenty of cans of Phoenix Pale Ale and Pikeland Pils to be had too!

A lot has changed since then, and each year a new element or partner is added to the mix to keep things fresh. While the baseball team isn’t quite as good as it used to be, the local craft beer scene has never been stronger. As such, the 2014 beer selection features five of the regions best and brightest breweries. The passion and vision behind BBQ at the Ballpark continue to remain true today – to deliver the best, most unique tailgate experience possible.

Or, as we like to say: THIS AIN’T YOUR AVERAGE TAILGATE!
